Fun with Easter eggs

I always loved dyeing Easter eggs when I was a kid. As gross as it is, there is something about that vinegar smell that reminds me of Easter.

I hard-boiled a dozen eggs Saturday morning so we would be all set to dye them when Samuel got home from work. I figured 12 would be enough for them--plus I didn't want to be eating hard-boiled eggs for the next two weeks (no one else in the house will eat them).

I got everything all set up and the kids were so excited. Sammy remembered it from last year, but I don't think Hannah did. Hannah really got into it this year and was done with her 6 eggs in about 2 minutes. She was her typical independent self and wouldn't let me help her at all. I kept trying to show them how you could dip half the egg in one color and then the other half in a different color, but all they wanted to do was drop their egg in the cup.

Literally DROP it in.

I think most of them are cracked from hitting the bottom of the cup, so maybe I won't be eating a dozen hard boiled eggs after all. I have a thing about eating food that is artificially colored.

They finished with their 12 eggs in less than 4 minutes. After that, they took them out of the egg container where they were drying and put them back in the cups to dye some more. I guess I should boil 2 dozen next time...

I was pretty bummed that our ward didn't do an breakfast/Easter egg hunt this year like they have every year since I've lived here...maybe next year. Our Easter egg hunt Sunday morning was pretty low key, but the kids still had find running around the family room looking for eggs.

Here are a few outtakes from my attempts at a group photo on Sunday.

My niece and nephew did the same thing. Dropped them in, dye everywhere an then wanted to take them right out. We had some pretty pale eggs. I love the girls dresses :)

You are brave to set that all up in your living room! I'm glad the kids loved it. And seriously, they really look cute together in their outfits. Good job mom! :)
